The 2022 list of residential developments in the Austin area tracks neighborhoods with the most housing starts. Information encompasses the five-county Austin area including Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop and Caldwell counties. Data tracks one year of activity during 2021. Information is provided by Zonda Advisory and tracks housing starts, closings, price and active builders. Zonda surveyors conduct quarterly drive-by field inspections for observed starts and closings. Housing starts are defined as the time when foundations have been poured. Additional information about amenities is culled from neighborhood and builder websites. In 2021, the top 25 listmakers had a combined total of 8,390 housing starts, compared to 7,749 starts in 2020. Nine new communities have popped up on the list, as well. These residential developments are located in Bastrop (2), Leander (2); Hutto (2) Liberty Hill (1); Jarrell (1) and Austin (1). Overall Zonda says the Austin area had a total of 26,704 housing starts in the Austin area during 2021, up 25% from 21,418 in 2020.
